Illicit Drug Diversion Initiative (IDDI)
The Illicit Drug Diversion Initiative (IDDI) provides compassionate, confidential and culturally safe support for individuals experiencing challenges with alcohol or drug use. We walk alongside community members with respect and understanding, offering a judgement‑free space to explore healing, education and healthier pathways forward.
IDDI supports people who have been diverted by Tasmania Police for using or possessing small amounts of illicit substances, giving them access to drug education, counselling and appropriate treatment. The program provides an alternative to the court process, helping individuals understand the legal and health impacts of substance use and, in many cases, preventing a criminal record.
Adults and young people may be eligible for diversion depending on factors such as previous convictions, the circumstances of the incident and the quantity of substances involved. Individuals can also be referred through other services when drug education, assessment or brief intervention may support their wellbeing.
Through respectful guidance, meaningful education and personalised support, we help individuals build resilience, confidence and a renewed sense of purpose. Together, we strengthen our community by creating pathways to growth, healing and positive change.
